"Drachena".

The festive table of the residents of Shchigrovsky district has always been decorated with an old dish with an interesting name "Drachena". Each hostess made this dish in different ways: someone baked it in small cast-iron pots, and someone cooked it as a multi-layered pie. Her recipe has been passed down from generation to generation, and thus this recipe has come down to our days.

Timonya

The traditional dance "Timonya" is a unique cultural tradition of the Kursk Region, which has survived to the present day and exists on the territory of the southern districts of the Kursk region.

"Timonya" is both a dance, and choruses, and a musical performance at the same time.

This is communication, this is movement, this is self-expression. "Timonya" is Life. Probably, this will be the most correct definition, although perhaps the most incomprehensible. Indeed, they lived in Karagod - "Timonya" accompanied them all their lives.

Children were put to bed under "Timonya", who then, growing up, found grooms and brides in Karagоd; they got married and got married under "Timonya"; no holiday in the south of the Kursk region could do without "Timonyа".

The soldiers from Kursk, who reached Berlin in 1945, said that when they declared Victory, they danced "Timonya" for several hours in a row. It was a dance of Victory.

"Timonya in polished boots, his whole chest is covered in medals!..."

The history of this dance, its origin is a separate topic. The dance is very ancient.

Why the dance is called "Timonya" is unknown. They say that in the choruses it is sung about Timonya, therefore "Timonya". But, probably, the dance itself is much older than the choruses.

"Timonya" and other similar dances were not specially learned by anyone, they just were and are, they carried and continue to carry knowledge and information about the people who dance them, they made and created the people, did not let them go limp and fall apart, lose their image among other peoples.

Folk dances, along with dresses, ornaments, songs, customs, helped the people to preserve themselves and not get lost.

And these dances also carried a deep sacred meaning, the mythology of the people, they were danced on holidays for a reason, something important was re-lived and remembered there, which gave and gives meaning to our earthly existence.

Students of our school took part in a flash mob dance "Timonya", which took place on the Red Square of Kursk in September 2022. According to the strict commission, 1626 people danced at the same time. This sight amazed even those who had seen many representatives of the Russian Book of Records. It was not possible to "hold out" to two thousand participants. But the record was set anyway - more than 1600 dancers danced the Kursk "Timonya" on the City Day!

Places of spiritual power of our city

Good day to all! We are glad to welcome you all to our small provincial town, of which there are thousands on the map of our vast country.

Our town is a small part of the Kursk region, which many people lovingly call the nightingale region of Russia.

The history of the city of Shchigry is rich and original, closely intertwined with the history of our Fatherland.

The residents of our city inherited from their ancestors the love of the land, hard work, pride in their homeland and the ability to stand up for themselves.

The love for native Shchigry, a careful attitude to history remains forever in a person. Our thoughts always come back here, to the land where we were born. And special places, places of spiritual power, help us in this.

We invite you to "walk" with us through such places of our city.

In the center of the city of Shchigry there is a majestic five-domed cathedral, consecrated in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity. The slender outlines of its walls, painted in green and white tones, gilded domes, gilded crosses shining in the light of the sun give the architectural appearance of the city spirituality and uniqueness. This is not only the pearl of these places, but also the spiritual center of the entire Shchigrovsky district.

There were five thrones in the church: the main one in the name of the Life-Giving Trinity, in the aisles on the right side - in the name of the Most Holy Theotokos in honor of her icons Burning Bush and Tikhvin, on the left - in the name of St. Mitrofan, Bishop of Voronezh, in the upper aisle on the right - in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, on the left - in the name of St. Tikhon, Bishop of Voronezh and Zadonsk miracle worker.

After 1917, the Trinity Cathedral was closed, valuable church utensils were seized by the Bolsheviks, and a grain warehouse was set up in the temple. In 1930, the bells and crosses were removed, and the domes were destroyed. The pogrom of the bell tower was completed by the Germans bombing during the war. They also set up a stable and a bakery in the temple during the occupation.

After years of abuse, the church was restored by the efforts and at the expense of parishioners. Now he is acting again and serving Orthodox people.

The Holy Trinity Brotherhood was established at the church, which is one of the largest manufacturers of carved church utensils in Russia.

The club "Border Guard" was created on a voluntary basis on the initiative of Vladimir Fedorovich Korolev. In January 1985, he created the first group of guys. So the club of young dog breeders was created. Boys and girls trained dogs, participated in gatherings of young border guards and took part in search expeditions "Memory Watch" to search for and reburial of fallen soldiers on Kursk land.

In May 2012, a memorial sign was installed to graduates of the "Border Guard" club.

During the Great Patriotic War, our city had a hard time. The war affected everyone.... On the territory of the Prigorodnenskaya school, the Germans set up a concentration camp... on May 6, 2005, a memorial sign was erected in the courtyard of the school to the victims of fascism.

Mass grave of civilians executed by the occupiers 1941-1943.

Mass grave of soldiers of the Soviet Army on the square of the 50th anniversary of Victory.

Shchigry is a sweet city to the heart. This is our small homeland. Here are our roots, here are our loved ones, from here we, the younger generation, will step into a great life....

The folk toy of Kursk Region

The folk toy is one of the important monuments of the traditional culture of the Russian people. It is a traditional element of parenting.

The word "toy" is interpreted as an object specially created for play, fun. Each folk toy is a unique cultural phenomenon at the level of a genuine work of art.

It should be noted that in the territory of the Kursk Region, traditional folk toys have been practiced since ancient times. For example, the simplest rattle toys (5-7 centuries BC) were found during archaeological excavations near the village of Makhnovka in the Sudzhansky district. Today you can see them in the regional Museum .

The center of the painted clay toys of the Kursk Region is the village of Kozhlya, Kurchatov district. This toy was known in all corners of Russia in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was made of local clay of a grayish color, then fired in a furnace and painted with red, blue, yellow and green colors.

The famous Kozhlyansky whistle toys were very funny, as they were created for children, for play and fun.

Today, the traditions of making rag and straw dolls are being revived in the Kursk Region.

The straw doll, according to folk tradition, was made from the straw of the last sheaf. Fastening of the elements took place with the help of threads and knots, and then the doll was dressed in traditional clothes.

Traditional Russian rag dolls were divided into play dolls, amulets, and ceremonial ones. All such dolls were supposed to be "faceless". Our ancestors believed that a doll with a "face" gained a soul and became dangerous for a child. Amulet dolls were placed in children's cradles "from the evil eye".

Today we can safely say that the Russian folk toy is an important ethnic element and a monument of the traditional culture of our people; the heritage of our ancestors. Kursk craftsmen and craftsmen are actively reviving this business. Now you can find a lot of different invitations to master classes on making folk toys - rag dolls. Thanks to such masters of our nightingale region, a thin thread of traditions and customs that connect the past, present and future generations is strengthened and not lost.
